• Blunt abdominal trauma: begin with a right upper quadrant view
  • Penetrating abdominal trauma: begin with a cardiac view
  • Respiratory distress: begin with a thoracic view

RUQ View

  • Orientate probe indicator towards the patient’s head
  • Anchor probe in the midaxillary line at the 10th intercostal space
  • Then rotate the probe counterclockwise so it fits into the rib space (to remove the rib shadows)
