- Blunt abdominal trauma: begin with a right upper quadrant view
- Penetrating abdominal trauma: begin with a cardiac view
- Respiratory distress: begin with a thoracic view

- Orientate probe indicator towards the patient’s head
- Anchor probe in the midaxillary line at the 10th intercostal space
- Then rotate the probe counterclockwise so it fits into the rib space (to remove the rib shadows)
