Blood Prodocuts

• In stable non-bleeding adults, a general rule is that one unit of red cells will increase the haemoglobin by ≈10g/L¹
• In paediatrics (excluding neonates) use the formula:

$$\mathrm{Transfusion}\mathrm{Volume}(\mathrm{mL})=\mathrm{Patien}{\mathrm{t}}^{\prime }\mathrm{s}\mathrm{Weight}(\mathrm{kg})\times \left[\mathrm{Desired}\mathrm{Hb}(g/L)-\mathrm{Patien}{\mathrm{t}}^{\prime }\mathrm{s}\mathrm{Hb}(g/L)\right]\times \mathrm{Transfusion}\mathrm{Factor}(0.5)$$
